About your inventory:
1. What is a Home Inventory?
A ProActive Home Inventory is a detailed and comprehensive documentation of your personal property at your home or business, supported by digital pictures and video. Property stored in a storage warehouse should also be included. Personal property is basically anything that is not a permanent part of your home. A home inventory also records the kind of home you own with its' special features so the insurance company can restore it in like manner. Email ProActive Home Inventory today at info@ProActiveHomeInventory.com or call us at 972-869-9000 for a free estimate.

2. What is a Business Inventory?
A ProActive Business Inventory is detailed comprehensive documentation, digital photographs and video of your business property's fixed assets at one address. Additional locations require separate documentation. Your business inventory should include computer and electronic equipment, furniture, machinery, vending equipment, cash registers, security equipment, and any other items of value. Since consumables, merchandise, & cold storage changes rapidly, we suggest you care for that inventory yourselves and keep up-to-date documentation stored offsite, such as emailing to your personal computer at home or an online document storage service. Business inventory rates will depend on the size of the business and the time spent. Email ProActive Home Inventory today at info@ProActiveHomeInventory.com or call us at 972-869-9000 for a free estimate.

3. Why do I need this service?
A comprehensive home (or business) inventory will provide you with:
  • Essential tools to maximize an insurance claim after loss.
  • Visual records.
  • It is virtually impossible to recall every item that you owned after everything has been destroyed.
  • Every item that you forget to list is money you will never collect on your claim.
  • Proof of ownership for your insurance company.
  • Documentation to assist return of stolen property.
  • Estate Planning. Estate Planners encourage their clients to have a home inventory.
  • Documentation of your losses for tax deduction purposes.
  • Records of your property before you move.

You can, and if you have the time you certainly should, but 80% of the American population does not have a home inventory. It's a very time consuming task and one of those things you keep putting off for another day. One more day could spell disaster. It would surely take an average homeowner many hours to do this for themselves. A professional third party inventory adds credibility to your insurance claim, IRS tax deduction and estate settlement. Our service is fast, efficient and convenient. Before disaster strikes is the time to get ProActive.

5. What items should I have ready to be documented?
For a home your list should include: furniture, jewelry, artwork, antiques, appliances, kitchen contents, clothes, carpets, drapes, computer equipment, television sets, audio or audiovisual equipment, musical instruments, clocks, mirrors, linens, lawn mowers, snow removal equipment, tools, sports equipment. Other items of value should include fine furniture, collectibles, art, extensive wine collections, imported rugs, unloaded guns, power tools, etc., and items on which you may have an insurance rider. You may include receipts, birth certificates, marriage licenses, deeds, appraisal documents and any other important documents by scanning them and providing them to ProActive Home Inventory.

6. What else should I do to prepare for my inventory?
Since we will be photographing and videotaping your home, it would be good to have it fairly clean and orderly. We will also collect your insurance information as it can be loaded into the inventory software for your convenience. Please have your policy on hand.

7. How long will my inventory take?
We will quote your price to include a certain amount of time.
  • For a typical size home, your inventory will usually take 3-4 hours. Larger homes can take longer.
  • If we exceed the time allotment, charges will be by the per hour after your standard inventory. Please call for a quote.

8. Do I need to be present while you are doing my inventory?
Yes, please make yourself available to us while we are working in your home. We will be gathering information that only you can provide for each item documented.
9. Do you move furniture?
No, we do not move furniture. We will obtain make, model & serial numbers from electronics, computers and appliances where they are easily accessible without moving furniture or heavy items. We can collect the model & serial numbers from your owner’s manuals. We will document & photograph those items in place.
NOTE: ProActive Home Inventory will take utmost care when attempting to obtain serial numbers from computer and electronic equipment. Occasionally plugs can come unhooked and we will not be responsible for any technical challenges you may experience when reconnecting them. At your request, we can avoid collecting this data.

10. Do you document everything? Even clothing?
We inventory most everything; however, to preserve your privacy we will only photograph the inside of closets and drawers if you would like. If you have expensive suits, dresses, coats, shoes or purses that you would like to include, please have them ready for photography only. Itemization of extensive wardrobes will be done on an hourly cost basis and should be scheduled in advance.

11. What about items I may have in storage?
If you would like them to be included in your inventory, please have them unpacked prior to your appointment time. Part of the price you pay for our service includes an allotted amount of time so we want to be as efficient as possible. If you have a storage space at a different location that you would like to include in your inventory, email ProActive Home Inventory today at info@ProActiveHomeInventory.com or call us at 972-869-9000 for a free estimate.

About your documentation:
We will take an unlimited number of digital photos required to adequately record your property, a digital video movie and cataloged software documentation. Your digital photos will be uploaded into our inventory software complete with description, location, make, model & serial number. This software will be loaded onto your CD for you to view your inventory. You will also receive this report printed with many pictures. A DVD movie will be taken of the interior of every room of your home, including storage areas, basements, and garage as well as the exterior of your home including any out buildings, recreational features and gardens. The DVD movie will also be loaded onto your CD and will be viewable on your PC using standard media viewing equipment.

13. PC or Mac?
Our system is set up for PC users. Please let us know in advance if you require conversion for a Mac computer.

14. What should I do with my inventory data once I receive it?
You should download the files onto your PC immediately upon receipt. There is a document that explains each of the elements of your digital records loaded on the CD called "READ ME FIRST". After downloading, you should store your CD and DVD away from your home. We suggest a safety deposit box or a trusted relative that lives far enough away from your home to not be affected by the same disastrous peril that can encompass a geographical area.

15. What do you do with my inventory data?
ProActive Home Inventory will never share your information with anyone without your written authorization. Your information is strictly confidential. We download your data onto our secure server and will store it for one year. We deliver the digital information (pictures, video and comprehensive inventory) to you on an 80 year shelf life non re-writable CD and DVD. After one year we will contact you for renewal. If you opt not to renew we will delete your inventory permanently. At your written request, we will delete it from our server at any time; however, renewal option will no longer be available.

16. Is there a charge to update my inventory if I make a large purchase?
We will update your inventory free of charge for one year. If you opt to renew, we will again offer a free update for that year as well. We will send you one free printed report including your update during each year you maintain your inventory with us. Additional printed reports will incur a small fee. Updates can be sent to us via email at info@ProActiveHomeInventory.com, U.S. mail or by UPS. If you would like us to make additional visits to your home to update your file, a separate fee will be charged.

17. Is my home inventory an appraisal?
ProActive Home Inventory does not do appraisals at this time. We provide documentation only. Any pricing that you may give us is for your purposes only. We may also make recommendations to have professional appraisals on items that may need additional insurance coverage.

18. Do you advise or sell insurance?
ProActive Home Inventory does not sell insurance. We would be happy to refer you to a licensed professional who can review your policy with you. But we may suggest that you check in to riders on certain items. A rider (sometimes called a "floater") is a separate mini-policy or clause that extends your homeowners policy to cover the extra value of items that may be excluded under personal property contents insurance. Your homeowner’s policy may not cover the cost of particular expensive items like luxury watches, expensive jewelry, fine art or electronics equipment, for instance, or may limit reimbursement to an amount far below the actual value of those items. You may need an insurance rider if you have a home based business, own expensive jewelry, electronics, computer equipment, oriental rugs, fine art, antiques, or own an older home.

About life's changes:
A ProActive Home Inventory can help you start organizing your estate. It also can note ownership of certain items. Please let us know when we are there if you would like items to be noted as such.

Estate attorneys and estate planners recommend you have a home inventory on hand in the unlikely event that something happens to you. It can help immensely in valuing your estate, locating your property, and dispersing your property if you are unable to do so yourself. It also can help you determine what assets you want to go to whom in your will.

An inventory prior to moving will document your property in the event items get lost or damaged by movers. An inventory after a move will insure documentation was taken at your new home.

Absolutely! It would provide clear documentation and proof of an item's existence. It could be used to divide property fairly and equitably. It would also give you the basis to start organizing a separate estate.

If you have done extensive renovation or an addition to your home, the insurance company would need a visual record so they would know what kind of upgrades have been done. If you don’t have a visual representation and/or complete receipts documenting your remodel, you will most likely receive an average for your neighborhood when filing a claim.
